Lucy’s Top Tips for the Perfect Trip to Rome

Our lovely Travel Expert Lucy has been reminiscing about her last visit to the magnificent city of Rome and would like to share with you her top tips for the perfect trip.

Lucy's Top Tips for the Perfect Trip to Rome…

“When you visit Rome for the first time, it can be a surreal experience and at times a little overwhelming.

The city is large, busy, centuries old, and home to one of the oldest civilisations in the world — a must for anyone’s bucket list.

So, here are my top tips for the perfect trip…

1. Manage Your Expectations

Unless you are going to stay for a few months, it is impossible to see everything in one visit.

I recommend you prioritise what you really want to see — that way you will not be cramming too much into your trip.

2. Plan What Sights You Want to See Each Day

Not only does it give you the opportunity to see everything you want to see, but it also gives you the chance to pencil in some free time to lose yourself in this great city and take it all in.

3. Pre-book the Colosseum, Forum and the Vatican

I recommend booking the Vatican for first thing in the morning and taking the faster entry option, as the queues can be ridiculously busy at around 9am.

4. Getting Around Rome

Buy a Biglietto Turistico Integrato (BTI) ticket.

You can get a 3-day travel pass for the public transport network that costs about 20 Euros per person.

The subway system is pretty good and usually the fastest option.

5. People Watch at Piazza Navona

This beautiful square is the ideal place to spend a relaxing evening with a glass of wine while taking in the stunning surroundings.

6. Leave the Attractions Closest to Your Hotel Until the Last Day

This way, you can still leave yourself enough time to see these attractions before you fly home.

Oh, and how could I forget that no trip to Rome would be complete without trying the delicious gelato.

Plus, the house wine usually tastes great, so you do not necessarily need to splash out.”
