Our Travel Expert Lucy is reminiscing about sunnier days spent in the beautiful city of Florence – a true paradise for art and culture lovers.
Here is Lucy to share why a trip to this stunning city deserves a place on your travel bucket list when the time comes to explore again.
Lucy’s Trip to Florence
"I love Florence because there is so much to see and do, yet the city feels quieter and more untouched than some of Italy’s other major cities such as Rome and Venice. Florence is a hive of culture and beauty just waiting to be explored.
The city’s architecture is simply incredible, with narrow cobbled streets lined with palazzi, medieval chapels, basilicas, and galleries showcasing masterpieces by great Renaissance artists including Michelangelo and Botticelli.
For art lovers, no trip to Florence would be complete without visiting the Galleria dell’Accademia to see Michelangelo’s world-famous sculpture, David. I highly recommend pre-booking your visit and paying a little extra to avoid the queues.
If you don’t mind navigating narrow staircases and tight passages, then climbing Florence Cathedral – the Duomo – is absolutely worth it. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views across this beautiful city.
After visiting the Duomo, treat yourself to some of Italy’s finest gelato from one of Florence’s many gelaterias. Or take a stroll across Ponte Vecchio, the famous medieval bridge spanning the Arno River, known for its jewellery shops, art sellers, and antique boutiques.
For spectacular city views and unforgettable photo opportunities, there is no better place than Piazzale Michelangelo, located across the Arno River. I can assure you that the sunset views here are simply breathtaking.
Florence is also home to countless bars and restaurants where you can soak up the atmosphere while enjoying authentic Italian cuisine and perhaps a glass or two of Chianti."
